All Indian women know the miracle-like of power of coconut oil when is comes to transforming dry, brittle hair in to silky, soft flowing tresses. But this wonder oil has a whole host of other beauty benefits too. Here are six different ways you can incorporate it in your beauty routine.
Eye makeup remover
Removing makeup at the end of the day can be a pain, especially if it’s the stubborn, waterproof sort, which is really hard work! Enter your nifty little hero. Coconut oil is great at breaking down and removing waterproof makeup. Tip some coconut oil onto a cotton ball and gently swipe around your eyes. You’ll be surprised by how quickly the makeup comes off! Rinse your face once you’re done.
Handy cuticle cream
Dry brittle nails and peeling cuticles getting you down? Dab a bit of coconut oil directly onto your nails and cuticles, and gently massage it in. Ideally, let the oil soak in overnight. It hydrates and softens the skin around the cuticles, and helps strengthen your nails. You’ll wake up to younger-looking fingers in the morning. Apply the oil a few times a week for best results.
Makeup brush cleaner
You need to clean your makeup applicators at least once a month to maintain hygiene and avoid bacteria from building up. To make your own brush cleaner, mix put two parts antibacterial liquid soap with one part coconut oil. Soak your brushes in the mixture for a few hours. Wash with warm water to remove all the makeup and make your brushes bacteria-free (the oil’s anti-fungal properties help in this).
DIY body scrub
Coconut oil is a great based for a hydrating, moisturising body scrub. Mix half a cup of coarse sugar or sea salt with half a cup of coconut oil to create an exfoliator. You can also add in a few drops of an essential oil you like for a soothing scent. Rub the mixture all over your body to remove dead skin cells and make your skin baby soft. Add a little more of the coarse ingredients for the rough, hard skin around your elbows and feet.
Shaving cream
Run out of shaving cream and have to step out for a party? No problem, just slather on some coconut cream! Your razor will glide more smoothly, allowing for a closer shave, and its anti-bacterial and anti-microbial properties will ensure your legs are protected against infections from nicks. It also helps that coconut will moisturise your pins while you’re getting the fuzz out. That’s a win-win in our book! Just remember to do this outside the shower as the oil can make things very slippery.
Soften dry, rough skin
Your elbows, knees, and heels tend to have rough, dry skin that needs a little extra TLC. So soften the skin in these areas, gently massage in some coconut and leave it on overnight. The oil helps lock in moisture, preventing dehydration. Hello softer, smoother skin!
